Water…

Water…

… is NOT supposed to be in this part of the basement. Well, any part just for the record. So when Sunday morning came around and I found puddles of water in the utility closet area of the basement, my whole day’s course altered and I knew there was a lot of work in my future.

I found a relatively common problem, the condensate drain from the air conditioner air handler had clogged. I had seen this before at Ramblewood, however that system had sensors in place that shut the AC off before disaster struck. This system was designed by Barney Rubble’s younger cousin and somehow omitted that precautionary device. So I didn’t discover it until several (many?) gallons of water had flowed onto the concrete slab and getting wicked up by the flooring underlayment I laid back in ’17. Ugh.

I spent the day vacuuming water with the shop vac and then repairing the issue (proudly: only one trip to Home Depot), but now I look at the calendar over the next couple weeks to determine when I will be replacing the entire floor of the basement (after moving cabinets, pulling trim and removing all toys.. which there are many.

No rest for the weary I guess.
