The time has finally come that the RV is ours once again. We only had it in our personal possession for about a week before Tom moved into and and that’s where he remained through most of the Covid shut-downs. He handed the keys back over to us the first weekend of August (4 full months later) when he moved to the Fells Point area of Baltimore in a group rented row-house.
Excitedly, we began the process of deep cleaning it and readying it for our first excursion which is in just a little more than a week away. Cleaning was only part of the process so in the weeks since, I’ve been busy with small projects like rebuilding the bed platform to accommodate a residential queen mattress (an RV queen is not remotely big enough for my 6’5″ frame) and restoring the built in BBQ grill to serviceable condition.

One of the last remaining boxes to check was to set up the weight distributing hitch correctly, but of course that did not come easily. The mounting position for the L Bracket was blocked so I needed to make some “modifications”. Of course making said modifications to thick steel is not a simple process and I burned through several purpose purchased specialty drill bits along the way. Alas, I conquered and Saturday morning we hitched up to the new steed for the first time. We weren’t going anywhere… only from here the the high school’s level and vacant parking lot to continue setup (measurements taken on flat ground) and to practice some backing scenarios. Everything went great the beast hardly noticed the rig was back there.
Next step: Camping! We’ve got reservations in Gettysburg, PA next week! We might try to squeeze in a shake down to make sure we have everything this weekend. That might consist of drive way camping if we can’t find anywhere that’s not booked tight.
