We nearly didn’t have our Easter Egg Hunt despite the 6 weeks of planning and preparing. The week preceding the party was flawless, sunny skies, low to mid sixties, and birds chirping, but the forecast was bleak. Sure enough, the rain started falling Friday night and into Saturday. The prediction showed a window on the day of our party so we went for it, although we did ultimately move 90% of the activities indoors which introduced another whole set of problems.
Our dining room was buried under an enormous mound of plastic eggs, treats, baskets, decorations and munchies. That was converted into the food table, the basement had to be thoroughly cleared and activities displayed (even tho we knew what would ultimately happen), and the breezeway and kitchen would be converted into craft areas. The kids had eggs and little birdhouses to paint, eggs to decorate, games to play and more.
When the time came, I and a few other volunteer dads distributed 400 plus eggs between the front and back yards (big kids out back, little ones out front). Thankfully, Sunday stayed pretty dry and the yard was a lot less soggy than we anticipated. Once the hunt had concluded, the queue for the zip-line was two deep and the kids loved running around in the back yard. I think we ultimately had 22 kids arrive and they each went home tired.
Whew.
