It’s pretty common this time of year for me to spend some time in the shop turning large pieces of wood into small pieces of wood. Sometimes the end result is what I was hoping for, other times less so.
This year, things are a little different. The motivation for getting the wood turning up and running is ABYC related. We are holding a conference in January and it is customary to provide a thank you gift to scheduled speakers. Our president thought a great giveaway would be some hand turned pens and it would be a good excuse to get some shop time in while on the clock… I agree. So we divided the pens between us and I’m chipping away at getting them turned.
Yesterday I worked from home and got the shop pretty well set up for the operation. I had most of the big items already in place, but I had forgotten how many other necessities were still packed away. So I’d didn’t get as far with physically turning them, but I have all the blanks prepped and I should be in pretty good shape to turn a few at a time in the evenings.
