Rink Rat

We started Ryder in some Ice lessons a couple weeks ago to give him a little change of scenery from his grind of swimming lessons. Each Saturday morning we’re off to the Bowie Ice Arena for the never-evers class where he and a half dozen others in his age range get to try some basic skills on the ice. We started him on his hockey skates which we were told was the right thing to do, however the learning curve is a lot steeper as the blades are curved so there is a narrow “center”. So after a couple lessons with him truly struggling, we switched over to the rental figure skates which are flatter and give him something to stand on and he’s progressed significantly already.

This past weekend following skating, we immediately packaged him up and drove to another rink where he could experience hockey for the first time. How stinkin cute was he, with all that gear on grinning from beneath his full cage helmet! By this point, he was already a bit tired so he didn’t last long, but overall it was a successful morning on the ice.

Needless to say, there wasn’t  much left in the tank after his wild morning.
