… with no air conditioning. It finally arrived yesterday afternoon and within a few hours welcome cool air was flowing through the ducts. Thankfully the temps have been way below average this month and verging on comfortable for the last week making at least some of the time bearable. But not all of it was a walk in the park. There was about 2 weeks in the middle that the temps in the house were out of control. We saw 85 a couple times and even 87 during the hottest part of the day with nothing we could do about it. The humidity was the killer and it even took its toll on the house itself. A couple of the doors started sticking heavily and the veining in the plaster walls in some places started showing through. Fingers crossed that after a few days of drying out, all will return to normal.
During the process, I called the home buyers warranty literally EVERY DAY to look for ways to expedite the claim and get status updates. I’m not sure it did any good, but I at least knew that I did what I could. Looking online, I found that this was not an uncommon experience by other homeowners regardless of what warranty company they had. They muddy the process so much that a certain segment of the homeowners walk away. I wasn’t about to do that with a repair that would have cost me 5 grand out of pocket.
Last night was our first night in the quiet house again… and quiet it was. No fans whirring in every room and hallway. No lackluster portable air conditioners with their grinding compressors all night. No more bugs crawling in through the compromised windows and doors. Just quiet.
Of course it go down to 66 last night and will only get to 72 today, figures right?
