… that’s what I’m calling them now since we seem to have a running history with trees. Monday night we received the only real winter storm of the year and instead of the snow they said we would get, we mostly received ice and heavy slush with a dash of high wind. Low and behold, our property sounded like a pop corn popper starting at about 330am with branches, limbs and even an entire tree crashing to the terra firma. A tree on the front of our property uprooted and fell across the road, blocking access to the houses at the cul de sac and taking power lines with it. BG&E was called at about 4 and they were here at about noon. Power was finally restored around 8pm. That’s a pretty long cold day to go without power while trying to entertain a 2.5 year old. He didn’t seem to notice.
In the meantime, I was trying to clear the bigger limbs and branches that had fallen and put the fence back together that had succumbed to another large limb. All the while, the wind was still blowing and debris was raining down around me so I had my cat senses turned up to try to be as alert as possible.
My not so trusty Husqvarna chain saw was officially put out to pasture. It had become increasingly unreliable and when it gave me fits yet again in my time of need, I decided it was time to invest in a real machine. So shopping I wend and found a nice Stihl MS271… with a whole lotta power. This one is going to have to last me 15 years for what I spent on it though and so far, its off to a great start.
