AVS Boat

My little fun boat, a remote controlled sailboat called a CR-914, had been on the shelf for several years. First I started having some problems with electronics. So I got around to replacing the receivers and radio. In that process I lost the hatchcover, which is vital to the boat staying afloat. Finally, while moving the boat, I cracked the hull deck joint. Ugh. So it sat, waiting for attention and some not so simple repairs.

The time finally came last weekend while Kris was out of town and I could turn the basement into model nerd room. I disassembled the rig (which hadn’t been removed since I built her) and pulled all the electronics out so that I could access the hull’s interior. Once in, I mixed up some thickened epoxy with filleting beads and smeared it in the crack with my fingers crossed (for luck…  not technique).

The next day, I checked my work and it felt satisfactory. So I started putting all the pieces back together. After two evenings of re-assembly, she’s ready to go back in the water. I’m contemplating bringing it to my office to sail there as access to the water is so convenient.
