The End of an Era

The time has finally come for our trusty Dodge Durango which is one of the remaining links to Colorado.  Her problems, while none of them were fatal, were becoming numerous including lack of heat (kind of important as the baby-mobile), ABS error codes (bad wheel sensor), transmission lag, uneven tire wear (she would need new tires AND front shocks), and driver’s side windows that wouldn’t roll down.

The last thing I wanted to do was take on another car payment, but there was little that could be done and we could not put off the investment any longer.  So this past weekend we purchased a 2009 Ford Flex with 70k miles.  The Flex is a car that we have rented a few times before and been really happy with on each occasion and even commented that it could be a contender when the time comes.  So when we decided to start looking, it was one of the choices we looked at.  The Pilots, Durangos and Explorers were too expensive with little value added. The CRVs felt too small. So after lots of research, it came down to the Jeep Commander and the Flex.

We stumbled across this particular Flex on a Sunday outing (yes, there are some dealerships open Sundays) and felt that it was the right one. After an afternoon spent with a pile of paperwork and a decent trade in offer on the Durango, we said our goodbyes to the truck that moved us to the East Coast and handled each challenge with ease.  The green machine will be missed, but we couldn’t be more excited about our new acquisition.
