The Trouble With Towing

… and not just towing, but driving, specifically with other human beings on the roadways, is that one has to deal with shear incompetence in such a manner that can place everyone in danger. That danger is ramped up when we’re at speed and I’m towing 12k lbs (not to mention the 10k lb truck… 12+10= 22,000 lbs!!!). It doesn’t stop quickly even when I follow all of my (and most thoughtful RVer’s) safety strategies: Don’t go too fast (generally 65 or less), maintain adequate following distance (as to not turn the car in front of us into an accordion), and stay in the middle lane in congested situations (the merge lanes are terrible driving lanes when towing).

Kris bought me a dash camera last year for my birthday or Christmas or something and frankly I feel it has been one of the best investments. It’s tiny and easily concealable behind the rear view mirror so I don’t even know its there. It’s also passive so it is always recording and overwrites old stuff when the card is full. There have been a few events that I’ve been happy to have had it, but none like the incident that occurred no more than 4 miles from home on our way to the Blue Ridge Nationals. It took the following hour for my stress to unwind, blood pressure to drop and after re-watching it, I am amazed no contact occurred.
