Ever since we moved to Duvall, I’ve had to make pretty frequent dump runs because of the yard waste that this property produces. I had bought my trusty utility trailer from a neighbor and I’ve long since thought that may have been the best investment I’ve ever made at a mere $175 (plus some repairs, lights, etc). I can tow it with ease around the property and load it full of whatever with the Kubota. The drawback however is that once it’s loaded with a couple thousand pounds of materials, once I arrive at the dump, I must unload it by hand. Sometimes its a quick unload, other times, like when hauling concrete from Lois’ bathroom or 100lb logs from various trees, it might take an hour of back breaking labor to complete. Those days then render me useless for the rest of the day and it makes for about a 2 hour round trip for the dump run.
This winter has been another hard winter here with lots of fallen debris which created more workload for spring repairs. Given this, we’ve decided its time to get serious about taking these trees down… probably 60-70% over the next 3 years and we need a reliable way to get the material out of here without killing my body. So last week we decided it was time to part with the little 5×10 utility trailer in lieu of a larger, heavier capacity dump trailer. 6×12 doesn’t sound like much bigger than 5×10… but wow, this thing is massive and with it’s high sides it can really take a lot more material. Plus with the dump feature, unloading should be as quick as opening the rear gate and pushing a button.
I had to drive nearly 2.5 hours down into Virginia to pick this one up and thank goodness it was in the shape I expected. These are practically non-existent on the used market and new ones are back ordered by 4 months, (not that I wanted to spend nearly $10k on a new one anyways). It has a few small repairs for me to make before I can get in inspected, but otherwise, its ready to roll.
