Taking care of business

Who likes spiders or other creepy crawlies? Well nobody in this household but I have long since been the person to deal with such critters. The shift to fall typically means a rise in population of the sneaky bastards close to the house.

These things are everywhere. Some big, some small. Doesn’t matter when you walk face first through the web they’ve built across the entrance way to the breeze way. Its a quick way to get a month’s worth of cardio in in under a minute.

This garden spider (orb weaver?) thought it would be fun to spy on us through the front room window. While menacing in her size and color, they are apparently harmless to humans. That’s great to know in theory but it was either I take care of her or we burn the house down.

While I was finishing up work in the office a couple days ago, Kris called upstairs to let me know there was a big web and spider on Ryder’s zipline where he had been playing. His play areas are also “no spider zones” so I intended to go have a look after I was done. A 10 minutes later Ryder comes inside and says, “don’t worry mommy, I took care of it for you”. Apparently he’s learning the business from his old man.

In addition to the 6 and 8 legged varieties, we’ve seen a good share of lizards and turtles around this year. I usually like seeing them since I know they’re helping out with the other creepers. Ryder just like to look at them and of course Angus tries to protect us from the viscous creatures.
