For some reason, over the course of a week we had two tire punctures. We probably picked screws up at the nearby construction project that we have to drive through to get to town. Thankfully both were repairable and were quick trips to the local service station for a plug.
The second time around Ryder genuinely wanted to help so down he sat in front of the Flex’s damaged tire learning how to remove lug nuts. He was excited to be able to lift the car on his own (with the help of a 3 ton floor jack of course) and the flat tire looked “silly”.
I love scratching at the surface of new interests for him and I see what I must of been like growing up in dad’s shop or watching grandpa tinker on his Fiat. I would certainly never expect him to become a mechanic but I hope that he never fears doing basic maintenance to his own vehicles and hopefully he’ll even get the same gratification that I have for decades being able to keep our wheels turning.
