It was just a flu when we first heard about COVID-19 a few months back. Not to mention it was a problem half a world away where healthcare was practically nonexistent. It was a distant thought until it wasn’t and we all realized that it would move throughout our ranks with little to no resistance from the measures designed to do so.
It all started becoming a reality when we closed our office, now a month ago. Were all very thankful that it’s possible for us all to work from home. I merely had to pack up my office tower and set it up on a small table in the dining room.
EPG has not been so lucky. As a service company, Kris’ jobs evaporated overnight for a minimum of two months. Knowing what we know now, it’s for the best and it gives her the freedom to be the teacher whose role she now consumes. Ryder’s little private kindergarten has him doing nearly 6 hours of work a day which is a lot to juggle with a 4 month old alongside.
My workload doubled as the interest in online learning skyrocketed. Many of ABYC’s membership are home with their shops locked up tight. So the next best thing to do is train employees. As the only viable online training program in the entire industry, our small learning management system has seen a lot of traffic. I guess I can call that job security in what would otherwise volatile world.
As much as I love spending the extra time with family, I’m read to see the world get back to “normal”, whatever normal that may be.
