One Month

Ethan’s first month with us was an amazing flurry of activity and it flew by at an astonishing rate. We savored every moment that we had with our new little guy, but life as a whole always makes sure that things are challenging. Thankfully mom came out just before thanksgiving to help and with Lois able to stay nearby we had more support than ever before.

During the whirlwind of child birth, EPG managed to survive the two busiest weekends of the year which were the weekends following Ethan’s delivery. For the most part, Kris was able to stay away with only the bare responsibilities while I ran the majority of the logistics. She started helping out for the last of the major events on the 14th.

When the dust settled, I headed back to work for a couple days in the office since I’ve got a lot going on there too and we picked up dad from the train station after his nearly four day train ride from the west coast. Yes, you read that right… dad opted to take a train from California to Maryland. Not surprisingly, he then spent three days recovering.

Christmas was a flash which in the aftermath we each started battling the cough, then cold which would linger into the new year. Ethan took it all in stride yet we’ve noticed he’s not quite as melancholy as his elder brother was. We’ve been battling frequent spit-ups, regular gas and other fuss inducing symptoms every hour of the night and day. There was a stretch between Christmas and New Years where we were averaging 2 or 3 hours of sleep each nite. Ethan grew nearly an inch and a half in his first month and is pushing 12 lbs now.

Mom and dad stayed through our last crazy job of the year… the NYE extravaganza at the Kennedy Center. I’m sure they were both happy to climb into their own beds after such a long visit. Now we’re settling in to new routines and making plans for the spring already.

Whew.
