Tom has been staying with us for over two years now and he’s grown infinitely in that time. He bought a car, established a work history by keeping the same job the whole time, and has been successfully completed several semesters at AACC. After the long process of evaluating schools and programs, he was accepted to the University of Maryland in nearby College Park to start this fall. Last Friday, he earned his wings and has now moved on to campus to start the semester and he’s certainly pumped (equal parts scared shitless and excited for the opportunity) to be there.
We helped him move into a nice sized dorm room on a rainy Friday afternoon and helped him get organized and even made a trip to Home Depot for a dorm fridge and other necessities. He doesn’t have a room mate which we actually wanted for him for the experience and built in companionship he would get, but this is a good glimpse of independence. I relate it to living on your own with training wheels.
He’ll do great and we’re excited to see his growth over the coming semesters and the next stages of his life.
