Each year we participate in the largest marine industry trade show in the US called IBEX as an education partner. We help facilitate conference education sessions and presentations among other things and in return we exhibit free and get our names represented. I’ve managed the sessions for a few years now which has been interesting to say the least, but largely predictable. This year things were changed up significantly.
In addition to the regularly schedule education sessions, we added in a couple of live remote sessions just to add to the complexity. These sessions would be live broad casts from OCTVS in NJ and aired in the conference room. I’ll have moderators at each end to help facilitate with questions and such and this gives us a way to bring the audience to the shop for more in-depth instruction on predetermined tasks.
As the main media and content developer for our small association for the last couple years, I regularly find myself engaged in new challenges. I never really thought that I’d be turning into so much of the video guy, but alas, here I am. The live IBEX session is completely on my shoulders to develop and manage and I’ve had a giant learning curve to get from basic video guy to broadcast producer, and engineer (oh also toss into that job description director, storyboard creator, content expert wrangler and sponsor solicitor… whew).
With only two weeks to go before going on air, my office has looked like B&H Photo exploded. I’ve got gear everywhere… cameras, computers, mixers, audio, encoders, etc. etc. etc… I finally feel like I’m in a good place and I’m getting confident with how things will go. Let’s just hope it all goes as planned.
