BANG!
BANG!

BANG!

BANG is really the only way to describe the noise that came amidst the closing moments of a small but intense thunderstorm Saturday night (of Memorial Day Weekend). We were already in bed but unwinding with some TV when the noise shook the house and the lights went out. I thought for sure the transformer on the pole across the street was hit and we’d be running off the generator for a while, but that was not the case. The front street lamp was still on… hmm. It turns out it merely popped a breaker, an easy fix for a change.

Whatever it hit, we knew it was close… really close. I found the damage the next morning in the early morning sunlight while still in my slippers. 3 trees in the yard showed strike damage. Its hard to say if one was the main target or what, but the damage was incredible. The thin pine was already on the short list to come down, but it must do so now. I just hope the big poplar wasn’t killed as a result because that is not a tree I can handle myself. Shattered bits of unidentifiable wood littered the backyard. I even found some pieces against the house, 135′ away.

Crazy!
