Birthdays, wedding anniversaries, life changes, new houses… these are the anniversaries we celebrate in life. This past week marked the 1 year anniversary of a mild ice storm that knocked over a tree in our new front yard, blocking our neighbors in the cul-de-sac and left us without power on a very cold winter. Thankfully, the crews had us back up and running 18 hours later. History decided that we should relive this incident which took me several months to cart off all the debris. Winter storm 2018 Riley (which I think naming winter storms is the stupidest thing ever, but I digress) made a bigger impact than last year.
No less then 5 trees came down and a couple tried to limbo, unsuccessfully, under our power line. This time around, BG&E took 3 days to get things sorted out and I was infinitely grateful to have our generator chugging juice into the absolute necessary appliances (space heaters, refrigerators, and of course the TV which was streaming Paw Patrol for most of the blackout… times have changed).
That was Friday March 2nd. When the wind subsided a little Saturday am, I was already working on the clearing the trees and trying to make sense of the destruction. Thankfully the trees dodged the house, pets and people (!!!) which is an amazing feat when you look at our property with somewhere around 125 120 trees.
