Hurricane Season

Hurricane Irene decided to slide right up the Chesapeake and leave some footprints along her way.  I was away at an event when I received a frantic call from Kris that the power had gone out and something big had happened outside. She wasn’t sure just what it was, but I needed to leave immediately. I was in Nowheresville Virginia, so it took a little while to get home. when I pulled up, I realized there was no way I was going to be parking in the driveway tonight. A tree laid across our front yard stretched over the power lines and into David’s yard next door. I couldn’t see much, but with as best inspection as I could give, it hadn’t hit the house… whew.

Then I wandered into the backyard… tree number two belonged to Guido and Sherrie next door and it had no problem squashing the fence between our yards. My favorite tree in our property took one for the team and took the brunt of the Cyprus tree’s weight so it did minimal damage to our sun-room. Our house was essentially surrounded by fallen trees.

The power company had someone on standby in our yard since there was a power line down… he was on station until a utility truck could get there (the next morning).

Finally, in anticipation of the storm, we had been contacted by the South County SPCA to see if we could foster an animal or two since their location was heavily subject to flooding and the kennels could actually get submerged. We brought home a Kane Corso named slick who took all this in casually as if this was all normal. what a chill behemoth.
