Every King…

Every King…

… needs his castle.  Our soon to be two year old is no different.  Ryder loves being outside and we wanted to foster his outdoor adventurous demeanor by giving him a play house for his 2nd birthday. We had an area in the yard that was close to the house and had largely gone to waste since our neighbor’s tree landed on our dogwood tree (that’s another whole story entirely).  So after a couple years of being relatively barren, we graded it and installed a small retaining wall to keep  erosion at bay so that we could create a play area. A few days of google searching and we ordered a play-set that checked all the boxes. It was on the inexpensive end of things, so I was surprised that it was as well designed as it was.

It came in two monstrous boxes each with about a thousand numbered sticks of cedar and bags and bags of screws, bolts odd fittings and hardware. I built a few of the sub assemblies first in the shop which made it faster once I worked on the primary assembly. Cousin Daryl stopped by to help out with the big stuff and that certainly expedited things and ultimately it was operational in 2 days.

To wrap it up, we spread 80 bags of mulch beneath it for plenty of cushion for Ryder’s rigorous play time and a few bags of sand under one area so he would have his own sandbox.
