In 2008, we had just moved to Annapolis, bought the house, started various household projects, were managing Dakota’s ailing health, were taking over the photography business and overall had a ton on our plates (great to see that’s all changed ;).
In the midst of all the commotion, one morning I was working from home and Talley didn’t want to get out of bed. Before we could remotely think about what was happening, I watched her slip away in my arms. Her kidneys failed her and her body shut down without a whimper and nary a complaint.
This dog, a gentle, reserved and friendly spirit, had been at my side for nearly 10 years. She saw me through thick and thin. We explored the countryside together. She blended perfectly into our new lives as 2 became 4 and tolerated her new brother’s eccentricities. We trusted each other and laughed at our experiences.
She left a paw print that will never fade in the sand of our paths. It’s been over 10 years since I said goodbye, but it feels like yesterday. I still see her eyes as the lights went out and can feel her warm paw in my hands as the tears fell.
I miss you Talley
