TWO!!!

We had looked up which day the 21st of May fell on 8 or 10 months ago and upon dscovering that it was a Saturday, we knew that Ryder’s 2nd birthday would come with a bang.

Months of planning and early commitments from Mom and Dad Wienold as well as dear friends Jason and Anne from Colorado ensured that his party would be nothing short of spectacular even though we vowed to keep it “small”. We got close to 30 RSVPs from friends and family so the trips to Sam’s Club to stock up were long and expensive. Leslie was excited that Ryder would have some playmates over and she had hours of entertainment, crafts, and activities that the kids could partake in.

A week or so out, we were watching the weather diligently since this was to be a mid-day, outdoor BBQ. The first couple weather checks showed that everything was clear, but then something changed. A weather pattern decided that it would not be going North as originally scheduled, but instead would park over the Chesapeake region on exactly that day. The 21st arrived along with guests from near and far, mountains of food, cake and beer, and of course 2 + inches of soaking rain. No backyard anything would be happening other than grilling under the EDPi tents.

It didn’t seem to make much of a difference for our visitors who piled into our small house and filled every seat, corner and niche. Kids gravitated to Ryder’s large bedroom where toys and activities abound. The food spread was a mile long in the modified dining room and guest got acquainted or reacquainted to the tune of steel drum music. A great time was had by all… and the man of the hour ran throughout the house on a high that would not be topped. He said all the right things, smiled for the cameras, played well with the other kids and loved having so much activity in his house.

Our little boy was now two.

While we gather more pictures for the gallery… here are a few
