Sometimes the stupidest things are what nickel and dime a project to death. Upon laying the pan for the shower, I needed to fill it up with water and leave it for 24 hours to test it for leaks. No problem. I bought a 2″ test plug similar to the type that you use in a boat (a rubber grommet with a thumb screw so when you tighten it, it expands. However the design of a shower drain includes weep hole for the liner which direct seepage from the liner into the drain at 2 inches or so below the upper rim of the drain. Soooo, $6 test plug: no workie.
Carlos says, “you need the inflatable kind.” I looked at Home Depot… No. I looked at Lowes… no. I looked at Ace… no. So finally I found it at a specialty plumbing store only minutes before they were going to close for the weekend (and I needed it tested ASAP).
“Yep, we have one… here you go. That will be $41.50 please.”
WHAT!?! 41 bucks for a little inflatable piece of rubber on a chain? I was REALLY tempted to take it back once I was done with it, but no… that would be bad bathroom karma. I will instead, put it in my tool box of other now useless one time tools.
