The race to St. Michaels MD 2013 was, shall we say, spirited. After waiting too long for a valuable crewmember (who never showed… F’n Brad!) we showed up to our start 20 minutes late with a crew that was unfamiliar with the boat or inexperienced. The decision was given: do we continue to race the distance race to St. Mikes knowing we would be DFL or head back to the dock and celebrate the only other way sailors know how to celebrate (RUM)? … Sail on!
Oh, I forgot to mention it was blowing 20ish, gusts to 30.
So instead of having a casual sail to introduce our new crew to heavy weather sailing gingerly… we popped the chute and made up ten minutes on our fleet.
