Continued from Part 2
All good things must come to an end and we hitched up to say goodbye to Tupper Lake on a cool drizzly morning. Unlike last year however, we weren’t headed home after our week on the lake, but rather only a couple hours Southeast of here to Ludlow, VT. We were parting ways with the Yates however as they had plans back home in Annapolis. It was an easy drive through mostly familiar roads back to Lake George then continuing due east through the Town of Ludlow to Crown Point Campground where we were treated to full hookups and a spacious site for the better part of a week.
The campground is about as Vermont as it gets…. nestled in the trees and smelling of pine and cedar forests. I didn’t have high expectations for the place considering I’m not a big fan of campgrounds with a high percentage of season campsites… but that didn’t detract from our experience there at all. The sites were spacious with good privacy between them. The campground as a whole was quiet with very limited traffic so the boys could ride their bikes to their hearts content.
Just as I had done for the Tupper Lake area, I had several big rides planned for Vermont as well, most of which were canceled since I was still fighting off my upper respiratory infection. There was one ride that I still wanted to follow through with and that was my first ever lift access bike park with Ryder. The local ski resort Okemo has ties to Crested Butte where Kris and I met and lived for several years back in Colorado. In the summertime they offer family friendly mountain bike lift service and I was hoping that Ryder would fall in love. Personally I swore I would never pay for a downhill, but alas, times have changed and I had a great time… especially since it meant doing countless laps with my son and watching his growth on the bike. This will probably become more of a regular thing in our travels to increase the chances that Ryder really embraces the sport and adventure of mountain biking.
With all of this biking activity, something finally clicked in Ethan. He hadn’t wanted to go near his Christmas present balance bike up until this point. All of a sudden, we couldn’t get him off of it. Now that said, he is mostly just walking with it between his legs… but this sure is a start!
As you may have seen the writing on the walls… with one sick human confined in a small space with non-sick humans, its only a matter of time before the pea tree dish does its thing. somewhere along the first couple days, Kris was now feeling under the weather now too. She jumped on some of Ryder’s leftover antibiotic to try to keep it from progressing as much as I, but nonetheless she now needed the rest that I took in Tupper. Outside of a couple exploratory trips and a small hike to the summit of Okemo (mostly driveable), we didn’t do much. There’s always next year. We had a wonderful time in Vermont and intend to go back… but our vacation was winding down and after spending much of it under the weather, we were ready to be in our own beds at home.
