Adirondacks 2022 – Part 2

Continued from Part 1

We left Gardiner by 9:30 or 10 am after a slow wake up and nice breakfast. The second leg of the trip is a little shorter than the first so it would be an easier driving day. Ari needed gas so we made one quick pit stop before getting on the freeway headed north and we were pulling in to Little Wolf Pond Campground by mid afternoon. It felt great to be back there again and we were quickly greeted by Arnie the campground manager. After some catching up and discussions about how we wanted to set up, Grand Talley was in place and a round of cocktails was in hand. Let the vacation begin!

We were there nearly a month earlier than we had been last year so there were even fewer people around. We practically had the campground to ourselves. The drawback was that the swimming area had not been set up yet, but we were still free to swim as desired.

As excited as we all were to be there, there was no denying at this point that I was getting sick and my mind started playing triage with the plans that we had. What would I still be able to do if this lasts 2 days? 4 Days? more?? We had done a couple COVID tests which all came back negative and frankly we were already on the tail end of the quarantine period anyways… so we were pretty sure it wasn’t that. By Wednesday (we left on a Friday) I was feeling so crummy that Kris convinced me to head to a urgent care facility in Saranac Lake. I won’t go into the details of what the hippy town medical facility was like, but lets just say I was less than satisfied and leave it at that. The doc (Cs get degrees) did prescribe an antibiotic which seemed to get me on the right track… but unfortunately I remained no better than 80% recovery for the rest of the trip. I was at least mobile enough to do things around the campground and even made it out to Lake Placid for some sightseeing and exploration. Unfortunately, I was not up for any of the mountain bike rides that I had on the docket. Ugh.

It’s hard for me to complain. Frankly many people in this world dream of vacations that consist of sitting on a beach and reading a book… which is exactly what I did. That’s just not my style of vacationing especially since I’ve been trying to mountain bike at all our destinations recently and get Ryder into the sport as well. Additionally, Ethan is becoming really mobile so these are all great times for us to go explore as a family. Alas, we had a wonderful time… but it didn’t quite meet up with our expectations.

Ryder has found a new interest in fishing… so we tried that in various places around the lake and he even caught a fish by himself in the outflow section of the creek. Great job Ry! We’ve also been following closely our beloved Colorado Avalanche progress through the Stanley Cup playoffs. On one of our last nights in Tupper, they made it to the Stanley Cup Finals and we got together with some other campground hockey fans to enjoy the game on the beach. What an awesome way to enjoy.
