Grand Talley

Well… we may have done a thing and I think we blame mom and dad. The delivery and setup of their guest house in our backyard was likely the final straw for us. Just like their story, ours needs to rewind a bit to be complete.

We bought Talley just over two years ago at the start of the pandemic. We have traveled thousands of miles with her and she has been a wonderful first rig. But somehow we knew early on that she would be that… a first rig. Sometime starting in the summer of 2020, we were already exploring other options of what the next one would be and it didn’t take too long for us to settle on our model of preference. The problem has been that the RV market went crazy. Bat shit crazy, just like lots of other industries over the last couple years. So we were patient biding our time. Kris even went into negotiations on a used one over the winter but it didn’t materialize. Then back in December while shopping for mom & dad’s rig, Kris chatted about it with salesman. They didn’t have one in stock at that point and he couldn’t tell when the one on order would arrive. Regardless of its arrival, we were primarily looking at used anyways.

Fast forward to my trip with dad to pickup their new rig 3 weeks ago and somehow our sales guy actually remembered that conversation with Kris. So before we left with the 315 in tow behind the truck, he offered to open it up for me to see and he offered to run the numbers just for kicks as sales guys are programmed to do. Here’s where things got interesting. By the time dad and I made it home from the dealership, Kris had a quote on her phone. Considering the significantly better interest rates for a new rig versus a used one, we would be paying the same for a 5 year old one as a new one. Add into that equation that they were willing to give us $5k more for Talley then we paid for her, the deal started looking pretty attractive. The final straw I alluded to earlier was when mom & dad’s new rig was set, leveled and open… it was beautiful… and it’s essentially the same model as the one we wanted. A deposit on Grand Talley was made.

I spent the next week starting to clear Talley out and fix the last few projects before turning over the keys. Our schedule has been difficult, but we made it work and finally this past Tuesday I returned to the dealer to pick a brand spanking, plastic still on the mattresses, fresh scent, packing material in the fridge, NEW Grand Design 312BHTS! Grand Talley has arrived.
